LAWMAKERS recognized the Davao Eagles and other student athletes for their third-place finish at the Palarong Pambansa 2026 in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, from May 24-31.

In a privilege speech during the 21st City Council’s regular session on Tuesday, June 16, Councilor Antoniette G. Principe, chairperson of the education committee, praised the athletes, coaches, trainers, school officials, parents, and support personnel for helping Region XI achieve its highest-ever finish in the national games.

The Davao Eagles secured 34 gold medals, 32 silver medals, and 34 bronze medals, making it the highest-ranking delegation in Mindanao and the third strongest region in the country.

“Your city is immensely proud of you,” Principe said, noting that the athletes’ achievement demonstrated how excellence can be attained through dedication, hard work, and perseverance.

According to a resolution adopted during the session, Davao City athletes contributed significantly to Region XI’s historic campaign, bringing home 45 medals across various sporting disciplines and Para Games events.

The resolution also cited the recognition of the Davao City Sports Development Division as the 5th Best Performing Schools Division Office nationwide among 220 Schools Division Offices, reflecting the city’s continuing investment in youth development, sports excellence, and quality education.

Principe said the success of the Davao Eagles extended beyond medals, reflecting the commitment of student-athletes and the collective efforts of coaches, trainers, teachers, school administrators, parents, and sports officials who supported the delegation throughout its journey.

Among the sports that delivered medals for Davao City were Arnis, Basketball, Chess, Dancesport, Pencak Silat, Tennis, Swimming, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Wrestling, Wushu, Billiards, Archery, Karatedo, Athletics, and Para Games events.

“The success of our student-athletes demonstrates that when education and sports development are given equal importance, we empower young people not only to compete but to excel,” she said.
