LAKPUE was sighted about three kilometers from Mahagnao Eco Lodge, Mahagnao, Burauen, Leyte on Sunday, May 17, 2026, during the media documentation activity with Philippine Eagle Foundation field technicians and forest guards from Mahagnao.

Eight months after Lakpue was released in Kagbana, Burauen, Leyte, he was found perched on a branch of a Hagimit tree with an 288.9 altitude (meters above sea level) from Pangalaw-an river. He was observed preening before gliding 20 meters to another branch.

Lakpue, released last Sept. 30, 2025, is the fifth Philippine Eagle to be released and reintroduced in Leyte, representing the latest success in PEF continued effort to repopulate the critically endangered species in the province nearly wiped out by Typhoon Yolanda.

Lakpue is set to join Carlito, a successfully adapted female from the first release in 2024, after its pair “Uswag” died from drowning after crashing into the sea.
