THE NATIONAL University (NU) officially marked its entry into Mindanao with the grand launch of its Davao campus on Saturday, April 25, setting an ambitious target to reach 100,000 students across the system by 2027.
NU Philippines chairperson Hans T. Sy expressed confidence in achieving this milestone, noting that the expansion aligns with the SM Investments Corporation’s philosophy of “reaching out to more deserving Filipinos by providing better and quality education.”
Sy emphasized that the university will place a strong focus on sports development, which he believes is a key pillar in attracting and shaping well-rounded students.
The expansion, he added, is a tribute to the legacy of his late father, SM founder Henry Sy Sr., who envisioned accessible education as a catalyst for national progress.
A future-ready campus
Located within the SM City Davao complex, NU-Davao serves as the university’s 15th campus nationwide.
The facility features 28 modern, 40-square-meter classrooms designed to foster character and social responsibility among “future-ready Mindanaoans.”
Diverse academic offerings
The Davao campus is launching with a comprehensive suite of programs tailored to the region’s growing industries:
- Healthcare & Sciences: Medical Technology and Psychology
- Technology: Computer Science (with specializations in Machine Learning and Digital Forensics)
- Business & Governance: Accountancy, Management Accounting, and Tourism Management
- Design: Architecture
- Senior High School: Specialized strands in Engineering, Allied Health, Computing Technologies, and Social Sciences.
The grand launch at SM City Davao signals a significant shift in the local educational landscape, bringing the 125-year-old institution’s “Education that Works” mantra directly to the Davao Region.
