THE DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara led the mass oath-taking ceremony for 1,814 newly promoted educators and school administrators in Region XI on Oct. 1 at SM Lanang Premiere SMX Convention Center.

Angara also commended participating schools in the region for their performances and contributions to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results in 2025.

Angara said it is also a real achievement not only for the participants in their professional careers but also for the Expanded Career Progression (ECP), a program implemented by the agency to provide public school teachers with career growth opportunities.

DepEd XI regional director Maria Ines Asuncion joined the event to share her opening remarks and messages of support.

In his opening message, Angara shared that the budget for 2027 will be P12 billion, doubled from this year’s P6B, which will address the backlog in schools for many years, where teachers are not promoted for their milestone years.

In an interview, he shared that they are asking for an extra budget of about P8B for security measures such as fences, metal detectors, and CCTV cameras in schools, along with the help of local government agencies and private associations to prevent major incidents.

Angara emphasized that mental health among students and school communities is more important and must be strengthened.
