THE JOINT Task Force (JTF) Agila has officially resumed operational control over General Santos City and Task Force GenSan, marking the area’s return to its jurisdiction after six years.

Major General Alvin Luzon, commander of JTF Agila, led the assumption ceremony on Friday, April 24, at the Family Country Hotel and Convention Center. The transition follows a formal handover from JTF Central, headed by Major General Jose Vladimer Cagara.

The shift is a homecoming of sorts for the security forces in the area; Task Force GenSan was last under JTF Agila’s wing in May 2020 before being transferred to JTF Central.

During the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Adonis Ariel Orio, commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom), oversaw the reading of orders and the symbolic turnover of documents, signifying a seamless transfer of authority.

No disruption in security

Luzon assured the public that the change in command would not affect the city’s safety protocols.

“This transition is deliberate and seamless—there will be no disruption, only continuity, strengthened operations, and sustained momentum,” Luzon stated.

He also praised Col. Clairemont Pinpin and Task Force GenSan for their previous gains in maintaining the city’s peace and order.

LGU support

Representing the city government, Councilor Richard Atendido, chair of the peace and order committee, emphasized that the local government remains committed to its partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Atendido noted that the collaboration between the military and stakeholders is vital for the city’s ongoing economic development.

With this expansion, JTF Agila reaffirms its mission to consolidate security efforts across its joint operational area, ensuring that the return to the original command structure bolsters unity and response efficiency.
