National Museum of the Philippines-Davao remains ‘structurally sound’ to reopen July 2

THE NATIONAL Museum of the Philippines-Davao will reopen to the public on Thursday, July 2, as officials assured that the building remains entirely structurally sound following the recent Magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8.

When the earthquake struck, registered at Intensity V in Davao City, the National Museum of the Philippines temporarily suspended its operations.

“Your safety and peace of mind remain our absolute priority. We want to fully assure the public that the museum building remains entirely structurally sound, secure, and safe for all of our visitors, staff, and treasured collections,” NMP-Davao said in a statement.

This follows a comprehensive safety assessment conducted in partnership with the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO) and Engr. Evtri E. Tabanguil.

The museum announced regular operations from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors are advised that repair and maintenance work on affected exhibits is ongoing to ensure the continued safety and visitor comfort.

“While the building sustained no structural damage, the strong tremor resulted in visible cracks on several wall surfaces across different floors due to stress absorption,” it said.

The museum is located inside the People’s Park.
