DAVAO-BASED electric vehicle charger provider Electryx expressed interest in establishing fast-charging stations in Davao City following the City Council’s approval of the Electric Vehicles Ordinance on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Martin Hao, as part of the company, introduced the technology in EV fast chargers during the day’s council session and mentioned proposed stations in key locations like Matina, Ecoland, Davao International Airport, Buhangin, Acacia, San Pedro, R. Castillo, Panacan, Bago, Mintal, and Calinan (more locations may be added).

Additionally, Hao also stated said there is an ongoing construction for a 120-kilowatt fast charging station in Barangay Lizada.

Hao stated that the proposed model will involve the development of a mobile application where end users may access locations of fast charging stations and cashless payment methods.

“If we don’t take initiative in establishing charging stations, no one will buy EVs because the biggest question is, where do we recharge the EVs? The range of the battery is not that big, so we chose to take initiative so that Davaoeños can go on intercity [trips],” Hao said in an interview.

He also mentioned that the planned charging stations won’t be limited to specific brands. Presently, the installations of charging facilities is only planned within Davao City, with no infrastructure yet in place to support any long-distance travel outside.

The approved ordinance will push the use of EVs in the city in support of environmentally aligned practices for economic growth and improved public health through a more sustainable local transportation system.

In his privilege speech, Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre spoke on exploring practical solutions for a cleaner and more efficient transportation as the ordinance is pursuant to the Republic Act No. 11697 or known as the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act.

According to the councilor, shifting to EVs and establishing EV fast-charging stations helps reduce expenses and dependence on traditional fossil fuels, and such innovation invites investments and sustainable urban development in Davao City.

Additionally, the ordinance offered tax incentives and more privileges to be provided to the locals of Davao City to support their transition to EVs, however, the application process for the said incentives has yet to be established.
