THE ONGOING construction of the controversial Ma-a-Magtuod flyover project is now 90% complete, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XI reported on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
DPWH Davao said the work is focused on completing the approaches, laying asphalt, and installing safety features on the bridge.
The agency stressed safety features such as lane markings, railings, and solar street lights are crucial to ensure the safety of motorists.
Earlier in January, the Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) said it already completed relocating all of its utility poles along the Ma-a Flyover.
Engr. Enriczar Tia, Davao Light president and chief operating officer (COO), also said that the work was completed in late December 2025. The relocation paved the way for the mobilization and construction of the flyover’s landing.
It can be noted that the City Council in August 2025 formed an ad hoc committee to oversee and coordinate with stakeholders to fast-track the Ma-a-Magtoud Flyover Project, which encountered roadblocks related to road right-of-way (RROW) issues.
Davao Light had committed to the pole relocation within two months and implemented three sets of interruptions, at ten hours each.
The agency hopes to finish the flyover in March 2026.
