HISTORY unfolded in Davao del Norte on Friday, Feb. 6, as the 10th Infantry Division marked the completion of Lt. Col. Jovily Carmel Cabading’s tour as the first female Infantry battalion commander in the Philippine Army.
Major General Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10ID, presided over the change-of-command ceremony for the 60th Infantry Battalion, during which leadership was formally passed to Lt. Col. Jesus Rosete.
Cabading’s tenure has been described by military leadership as a “benchmark” in professionalism and operational excellence.
During the ceremony, Luzon emphasized that Cabading’s success proved that leadership in the infantry is defined by character and competence rather than gender.
“Lt. Col. Cabading demonstrated that effective leadership is anchored on character, competence, and courage,” Luzon stated.
Under her command, the 60IB maintained high mission readiness and upheld the core values of the Philippine Army in a region known for complex security challenges.
Luzon urged the personnel of the Mediator Battalion to extend the same “full support and teamwork” to Rosete to sustain the operational gains achieved during the previous term.
“As leaders change, our mission endures. Stand firm, stay professional, and continue to serve with honor,” Luzon told the troops.
The ceremony concluded with the traditional Uyagdok ritual.
Performed by members of the Dibabawon-Manobo tribes, the ritual symbolizes a prayer for protection and a pledge of harmony between the military and the local tribes within the battalion’s area of responsibility.
