TO PROMOTE cleaner and sustainable cities, environmental advocates urged the public to register in Sikad 2025 Para sa Kinaiyahan.
Sikad 2025 Para sa Kinaiyahan is a cycling event organized by Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) and the local government of four cities in Mindanao: Tagum City, Davao del Norte; Mati City, Davao Oriental; Davao City, and Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
The rides will take place in the cities of Tagum and Mati on November 16, 5 a.m.-9 a.m., and in the cities of Davao and Koronadal on November 23, 5 a.m.- 9 a.m.
During the Kapehan on Monday, Oct. 20, Adrian Dela Cruz, IDIS digital campaign officer, said each city will have 80 cyclists for the 20-kilometer rides.
For Davao, the starting point is from Freedom Park to the Coastal Road; for Koronadal, it will start in the City Hall grounds and vice versa; for Tagum, it will start at City Hall grounds and will end in the Nabintad River; and for Mati, the ride will start at Amihan sa Dahican Balod sa Paglaom area.
Each participant must pay a P300 registration fee and, in return, they will receive a ride shirt, sticker, and snacks. Funds will be given to the selected beneficiaries of every city.
For Davao, the raised funds will go to Bantay Dagat; Kastabeng Life Association for Koronadal; Nabintad Mangrove Community for Tagum; and Amihan sa Dahican – Balod sa Paglaom Inc. for Mati.
Aside from promoting cycling as a sustainable means of transportation, Dela Cruz said the activity also promotes environmental conservation for every post-ride activity.
Post-ride activities include a mangrove planting activity in Barangay Matina Aplaya; a mangrove planting and clean-up drive at the Nabintad Mangrove Park in Tagum; and a coastal clean-up drive at Dahican beach in Mati.
