A DELEGATION from Yunnan Province, China, expressed interest in investing in Mindanao’s agriculture and energy, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) revealed.

MinDA opened Mindanao’s investment opportunities to delegations from Yunnan Province, China, on Monday, Aug. 17, to discuss trade, investment, and business partnerships between the two regions.

In a press release, MinDA said the engagement positioned Mindanao’s economic strengths and investment prospects to delegates from Yunnan Province to identify concrete areas for trade and business cooperation.

Leo Tereso A. Magno, MinDA chairperson and secretary, presented Mindanao as having an expanding agro-industrial sector as key advantages for investors and international partners.

“With fertile soils, a strategic position facing ASEAN neighbors within BIMP-EAGA, and an expanding agro-industrial sector, Mindanao offers an ideal platform for high-value processing, trade, and sustainable investment,” Magno said.

MinDA executive director, Usec. Janet M. Lopoz said MinDA facilitates investments across Mindanao and the BIMP-EAGA sub-region.

The agency connects investors with opportunities and makes it easier for businesses to establish and expand in the region.

The meeting sought to develop practical business linkages in agriculture, food processing, renewable energy, tourism, logistics, and other sectors

MinDA said the meeting was to identify business linkages where Mindanao and Yunnan have complementary strengths in agriculture, food processing, renewable energy, tourism, and logistics.

Ma Jun, Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province deputy director general, highlighted potential cooperation in agriculture, food processing, flowers and vegetables, energy, and other industries.

He cited opportunities considering the complementary resources and markets of Yunnan and Mindanao.

“We believe that there are opportunities for cooperation in food processing and other industries, including energy, and we look forward to strengthening investment and trade between Yunnan and Mindanao,” he stated.

It can be noted that the region has a 4.6-percent economic growth in 2025, and a 36-percent share in the country’s food supply and raw materials, strong agricultural exports, power capacity, and mineral resources.

Christian Cambaya, Davao City Investment Promotion Center Investors Assistance Servicing Unit Head, also presented Davao City’s investment opportunities in agribusiness, tourism, energy, information technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, health, education, eco-industry, and inclusive business.

He highlighted the city’s growing durian exports to China and available investment incentives.

The forum identified opportunities in agricultural trade, fresh-cut flowers and vegetables, seasonal fruits, food products, beef imports, cargo connectivity, and direct flights, and a proposed Memorandum of Agreement between DCCCII and Yunnan Province, through MinDA.

The delegates from Yunnan represent government and private industries such as agriculture and processing, trade, technology/ICT and commerce, and logistics/manufacturing industries.
