MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines has joined Fashion Week Asia 2026 to showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage. Stepping in as the event’s official cultural partner, TPB brings the richness of Filipino craftsmanship and identity to the forefront, affirming the place of local traditions in shaping the future of Asian design.
Organized by AGC Power Holdings Corporation from October 20 to 24, the landmark event transformed Manila into the region’s premier gateway for fashion, culture, and commerce. The week-long gathering featured runway shows at the historic Palacio de Memoria, highlighting collections from 13 visionary designers across the continent. Creators from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam shared the stage with top Filipino talents.
The TPB views this prestigious global platform as an opportunity to demonstrate how a nation’s identity and traditions are embedded into its sartorial narrative.
“For the local communities, weaving and embroidery are part of their identity. They are traditions passed from one generation to the next, but they are also sources of livelihood, dignity, and pride,” said TPB chief operating officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles.
This focus on heritage directly supports grassroots economies. Drawing from her extensive work with the T’boli weaving communities in Mindanao, Nograles
emphasized that traditional crafts serve as a vital source of livelihood for Filipino artisans. TPB actively promotes this connection, noting that global recognition of local craftsmanship creates sustainable opportunities and strengthens community-based tourism.

To ground the international delegates in this philosophy, TPB co-hosted a curated cultural tour on the final day of Fashion Week Asia. The itinerary guided visiting creatives and media through the National Museum of Fine Arts to explore the historical contexts that shape Filipino artistry. Guests then experienced the country’s culinary traditions during a regional showcase at Newport World Resorts.
The Fashion Week Asia collaboration builds on the TPB’s ongoing strategy to elevate authentic cultural narratives. This commitment was reflected at Expo 2025 Osaka, where the Philippine Pavilion won the BIE Silver Award for its immersive exhibition celebrating local artisans. TPB also continues its joint initiative with the SOFA Design Institute, bringing design students earlier this year to the Cordilleras to learn directly from indigenous weavers.
By bridging the worlds of fashion and tourism travel into the conversation, the TPB invites the global creative community to look beyond the runway, beyond the aesthetics, and discover the people, communities, traditions, and cultural identities that give Filipino design its meaning. In doing so, TPB hopes to deepen appreciation for Filipino talent, a vital part of the country’s appeal and one of the many reasons visitors return to the Philippines.
