THE MUNICIPAL government of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental proposed the development of Tiblawan port to strengthen Mindanao’s connectivity.

Governor Generoso Mayor Juanito C. Inojales said this positions the municipality as a strategic gateway to the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) welcomed the proposal during a courtesy meeting between the mayor and MinDA Chairperson Secretary Leo Tereso Magno.

Inojales presented the municipality’s vision for developing the proposed Tiblawan Port as a strategic infrastructure facility to support trade, investment, and tourism during the courtesy call.

The proposed port is envisioned to serve as a potential maritime link between Mindanao and neighboring BIMP-EAGA economies, particularly eastern Indonesia.

Inojales said this will open new opportunities for the movement of people, goods, and investments.

Kung matuman ang maong vision, mahimo usab nga maablihan ang posibilidad nga ang Governor Generoso mahimong entry ug landing point sa mga goods gikan sa international vessels, nga makahatag og bag-ong direksyon sa trade, tourism, logistics, ug local economic development,” Inojales said in a press statement on Aug. 20

Magno emphasized the significance of Governor Generoso’s location along Mindanao’s eastern seaboard and its potential role in expanding the region’s participation in BIMP-EAGA.

“The proposed Tiblawan Port provides an opportunity to translate this geographic advantage into stronger connectivity, trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges,” Magno said.

Magno said the proposed development will improve access to domestic and regional markets, which could also benefit the municipality’s local economic sectors, including agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and other emerging industries.

MinDA and the Municipality of Governor Generoso will explore the technical, institutional, and investment requirements for the proposed port, including its potential connectivity with BIMP-EAGA maritime routes and economic corridors.

The initiative will require coordination with relevant national government agencies, the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, private sector stakeholders, and BIMP-EAGA counterparts to assess the port’s feasibility and potential regional linkages.

Both parties emphasized that the vision is to connect Governor Generoso to the region and connect local communities to wider opportunities.

Governor Generoso is a coastal municipality located on the southern tip of the province of Davao Oriental in the Davao Region.
