CONTINUING its campaign against noise pollution and road hazards, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) impounded 18 motorcycles and ticketed 17 motorists during a coordinated sweep along major roads on Monday afternoon.

The anti-“bora-bora” and “kal-kal” operation, targeting vehicles with illegally modified mufflers, was conducted around 4:30 p.m. on July 13 along Tulip Drive, the Coastal Road, and Punta Dumalag.

The DCPO’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, led by PCPT Ron Billy C. Ibañez, under the direct supervision of TEU chief PLTCOL Christian Antonio D. Garcia, led the operation in coordination with the City Transport and Traffic Management Office.

Authorities focused on violations of Republic Act 4136 (the Land Transportation and Traffic Code), Republic Act 10054 (the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009), and existing local city ordinances that regulate vehicle noise and public nuisance.

During the sweep, law enforcers issued a total of 11 temporary operator’s permits (TOPs) and six traffic citation tickets to violators. Meanwhile, the 18 impounded motorcycles were hauled to the CTTMO office.

Garcia emphasized that the sustained operations are part of the DCPO’s broader mandate to instill stricter road discipline and ensure public order.

“The Traffic Enforcement Unit remains steadfast in its mission to promote discipline on the roads and ensure the safety of all motorists, commuters, and pedestrians,” the TEU statement read.

Local authorities continue to urge the public to refrain from using modified exhaust systems and comply with traffic safety regulations to help maintain safer and quieter streets.
