VP Sara blasts impeachment trial as ‘fabricated’ on Day 4

by Rhoda Grace Saron

VICE PRESIDENT Sara Z. Duterte on Tuesday, July 14, insisted that the complaints leveled against her are entirely devoid of credible evidence, as the Senate impeachment trial entered Day 4.

In an official media release, Duterte maintained that the allegations brought forward by her accusers are nothing more than a “manufactured narrative.”

“On Day 4 of the impeachment trial, the country witnessed what I have been saying all along: the complaint is not supported by evidence,” Duterte said in a statement addressed to the public.

The Vice President directly targeted specific claims raised during the congressional prosecution, accusing her political opponents of inventing security threats and fabricating evidence to mislead the public and the senator-judges.

“Repeatedly claiming that there were threats when none existed, inventing an assassin where there was none, and fabricating evidence to support those claims does not transform fiction into fact,” Duterte asserted.

She further warned that the ongoing proceedings are taking a heavy toll on the country’s governance, arguing that the trial serves to “undermine the integrity of public institutions, erode public trust, waste public resources, and corrupt the search for truth.”

Duterte urged the body to return to strict legal standards, pushing back against what she described as speculation guiding the political trial.

“An impeachment proceeding should be grounded in credible evidence, not speculation, manufactured narratives, or unsupported allegations,” Duterte concluded. “The rule of law depends on facts, not fiction.”

The prosecution panel has yet to issue a formal response to the Vice President’s latest statements, as both sides continue to spar over the admissibility of evidence and witness testimonies on the Senate floor.
