THREE companies in Davao Region reportedly shut down due to economic strain brought by the energy crisis, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI reported Monday, April 20.
“As of last week, there are three companies who have reported to close down because of the crisis,” Suzette Jane Antiveros, DOLE XI regional employment programs spokesperson said during Kapihan sa Davao.
Antiveros said at least 30 employees have been displaced by the closure of the three companies, classified as micro, small and medium enterprises under retail services.
The agency has been monitoring companies since the Middle East conflict started at the end of February when the United States and Israel bombed alleged nuclear facilities of Iran.
The official said the displaced employees are referred to the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in terms of employment facilitation.
The workers are also referred to provincial offices for their assessment if they are qualified under the agency’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program or livelihood program.
The companies are urged to submit a report through DOLE Facebook page or the online reporting system reports.dole.gov.ph.
“Kinahanglan nila i-reflect didto pila mga affected workers nila para ma assess pud nato in terms of availability of assistance,” Antiveros said.
The official said the agency presented the report to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emergency Socioeconomic Crisis Response (IATF-Crisis) of the city government of Davao for additional possible assistance.
DOLE XI is a member of the employment subcommittee of the IATF-Crisis along with PESO-Davao City, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority XI, Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Labor and Employment Opportunities, and the Permits & Licensing Division (Business Bureau).
“We are closely coordinating with IATF-Crisis for the facilitation of employment and to guide the workers search for other sources of income,” Antiveros said.
