CENTRAL 911 rescuers and the police scrambled to rescue a driver and his helper who became trapped inside their vehicle along the Davao-Bukidnon National Highway on Friday morning, June 5.

The motor vehicular incident transpired at around 9:55 a.m. on June 5, 2026, at the descending slope of Sitio Lanitum, Barangay Suawan in Marilog District, Davao City.

Initial investigation by the Marilog Police Station (PS12) revealed that the involved vehicle, a Fuso truck with MV File No. 0386-276368, was traversing the highway from Cagayan de Oro City en route to Davao City.

The driver reportedly lost control of the steering mechanism on the downhill portion of the road, causing the heavy vehicle to veer off course and plunge into an open canal. The impact left both the driver and his truck helper trapped within the wreckage of the cabin.

PS12 personnel responded immediately after receiving the emergency dispatch from Central 911 at around 10 a.m. to secure the area and assist in the extraction operations.

As of press time, traffic investigators are still working to establish the identities of the two victims.

Authorities are also investigating whether mechanical brake failure played a role in the accident, a frequent hazard along the steep terrain of the Marilog highway.
