IN A JOINT effort to champion education in remote areas, the 89th Infantry Battalion partnered with the “Lapis at Papel” Project to provide school supplies and aid to 150 students in Quezon, Bukidnon.

The community outreach, held on April 11, 2026, targeted learners at Dumasilag Elementary School (Gamot Integrated School Extension) in Sitio Dumasilag, Barangay Sta. Filomena.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Lapis at Papel Project under Junie C. Serot, with essential operational support from the 89IB’s Delta and Charlie companies, headed by commanding officer 1LT Joseph M. Santos and executive officer 1LT Emmanuel F. Carido, respectively.

The mission aimed to bridge the gap in educational resources for students in underserved mountain communities. Volunteers and soldiers worked together to distribute food packs and essential school materials, ensuring an orderly flow for the children and their families.

“The Lapis and Papel Project played a vital role in the success of this activity,” Santos said. “Our unit remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote education in remote areas. By investing in the youth, we contribute to a more secure and progressive future.”

The 89IB noted that the activity is part of its broader civil-military operations intended to foster inclusive development and strengthen community ties.

By supporting partner-led projects, the battalion aims to sustain peace and security through non-combatant, community-focused engagement.

Teachers and students expressed their gratitude for the outreach, noting that the supplies are a significant help for families in the far-flung sitio.
