THE 10TH Infantry (Agila) Division is preparing to host a major bilateral training engagement with the Malaysian Army, signaling a deepening of defense ties between the two Southeast Asian neighbors.
Between May 12 and 13, 2026, the 10ID welcomed an advance party from the Malaysian Army to Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr. to conduct critical preparatory activities for the upcoming Exercise LAND MALPHI 24/2026.
The Malaysian delegation, led by Lt Col Wazir Syafiq Bin Nodin, commanding officer of the 6th Royal Malay Regiment (6 RMR), met with 10ID commander Major General Alvin Luzon to finalize the planning phase of the engagement.
During the two-day visit, personnel from both armies conducted reconnaissance of training facilities and billeting areas to ensure “smooth and effective” conduct of the drills, detailed coordination meetings to align the combined training frameworks, and inspection of conference venues and key operational locations at the 10ID Headquarters.
Scheduled to officially commence next month, LAND MALPHI 24/2026 is an annual exercise hosted alternately by both nations. This year will focus heavily on territorial defense and counterinsurgency warfare operations.
When the full exercise begins in June, participating forces will engage in a variety of high-level drills, including:
- Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEE) to share tactical knowledge.
- Table-top and Staff Exercises focused on battle staff planning.
- Command Post Exercises involving combined arms operations.
Luzon emphasized that these engagements are vital for addressing “shared security challenges.”
“Preparatory engagements such as this enable both armies to establish effective coordination mechanisms… It strengthens interoperability, mutual trust, and enduring partnership,” Luzon stated.
