THE 10TH Infantry Division inaugurated a newly constructed administration building and covered court for the 39th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Asbang, Matanao, Davao del Sur, on Oct. 24.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by MGEN Alvin Luzon, 10ID commander, alongside Davao del Sur Lone District Rep. John Tracy Cagas.
The new administration building will house command and control, operational planning, and mission preparation, while the covered court will support unit training, physical fitness, community engagement, and disaster response staging in Davao del Sur.
During the event, Luzon urged the battalion to maintain the new assets as vital tools for unit discipline and operational excellence.
“A strong camp must produce a stronger unit. A stronger unit must deliver better service. And better service must result in greater security and lasting peace for our people,” Luzon said, emphasizing accountability among military personnel and expressing gratitude to partner agencies behind the project.
Addressing the community, Cagas highlighted the historic sacrifices of soldiers in defending the area and noted that the military’s continued presence is crucial to maintaining stability and driving local development.
“The soldiers of the 39IB are our friends and brothers,” Cagas said in Bisaya. “Many of their officers and troops sacrificed their lives to protect Barangay Asbang and the municipality of Matanao.”
According to the 10ID, the facilities will also advance the division’s transition toward territorial defense operations (TDO) by improving unit readiness, integrating the Reserve Force, and streamlining personnel mobilization.
The event featured a “Talk to Troops” session, a ceremonial tree-planting activity, and a mustering of the 1101st Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion.
Also present were BGEN Apollo Jun Lamaton, commander of the 1002nd Infantry Brigade, and LTCOL Hector Estolas, commanding officer of the 39th Infantry Battalion.
