A 27-YEAR-OLD laborer is in police custody after allegedly choking and robbing a 77-year-old woman inside her home in Barangay Wangan, Calinan, on Thursday afternoon.
The suspect, identified as Rio, a resident of Barangay Sirib, was apprehended by Calinan police following a brief pursuit shortly after the incident.
According to police reports, the suspect entered the victim’s residence at approximately 2:45 p.m. on April 23.
Once inside, the suspect allegedly approached the elderly victim without provocation, choking her and covering her mouth. The assault caused the victim to become dizzy and fall to the floor.
The suspect then ransacked the victim’s shoulder bag, taking approximately ₱15,000 in cash from her wallet before fleeing the scene on foot.
The victim managed to call for help, alerting a neighbor who immediately contacted Subasta Punong Barangay James Sinco, who coordinated with the Calinan Police Station, leading to a hot-pursuit operation.
Police caught up with the suspect along the road in Purok 1, Barangay Sirib. Upon his arrest, authorities recovered ₱7,000 —a portion of the stolen money—from his possession.
The suspect was turned over to the Calinan Police Station by responding officers PSMS Louecel Mahinay and Patrolman Anthony Guillen. He faces a charge of robbery and physical injury.
