GCash urges vigilance against online scams and fraud this Holy Week
The country’s leading finance app and largest cashless ecosystem, GCash, is reminding users to stay vigilant and take simple yet meaningful steps to protect themselves from scams and fraud this Holy Week.
As more users go online, GCash encourages everyone to remain vigilant—particularly against scams that take advantage of vulnerable users, as well as government subsidy payouts, such as the fuel subsidy program of LTFRB and the DSWD.
GCash shares simple steps to help users stay #GSafeTayo:
- Be aware of fake fuel vouchers from “DSWD” or any government agency
Scammers exploit any crisis with spoofing and phishing scams. For instance, users may receive text messages that appear to come from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), asking them to claim an “e-fuel voucher” by clicking a link that leads to a phishing website. The DSWD has confirmed these are scams. They will never distribute assistance through unsolicited texts containing clickable links.
- Watch out for spoofed messages and suspicious links
Never click links sent via SMS or third-party messaging apps. Scams can arrive via SMS, email, or chat apps. Be wary of “phishing” traps, such as “free” offers.
- Avoid connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi networks
Increasingly sophisticated tactics are compromising even the most vigilant users. Malicious hotspots in high-traffic areas like airports can silently intercept sensitive data; therefore, refrain from accessing financial accounts or entering credentials while on public connections.
- Be alert against fake pages and impersonators
Some spoofing attempts come from fake GCash Facebook pages or Messenger accounts designed to look real. Check for the verified blue checkmark and report suspicious accounts. The only official page is GCash Official.
Follow additional safety practices
- Ignore unexpected calls or meeting invites about account or ID verification. If pressured to act fast, hang up or decline immediately.
- Never share your OTP, MPIN, passwords, or screen during logins or transactions.
- Do not download apps from links sent by email or text: use the official Apple App Store, Google Play, or Huawei AppGallery.
Report suspicious activity and stay informed
GCash users can report suspected scams through the GCash Help Center at help.gcash.com by chatting with Gigi and selecting “I want to report a scam”, or by calling the official GCash hotline at 2882.
Users may also report incidents to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group at (02) 8414-1560 / 0998-598-8116 or acg@pnp.gov.ph, and to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) via hotline 1326, mobile 0991-481-4225, or report@cicc.gov.ph.
GCash actively monitors and blocks suspicious activity, takes down reported scam links and accounts, and works closely with law enforcement and government agencies to protect the public.
For more information and updates on cybersecurity, visit the PNP ACG Facebook Page and the GCash website at https://www.gcash.com.
The GCash app is available for free on Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or Huawei App Gallery. For safety reminders and updates, visit the official Facebook page at GCash Official.

CCEAP and LTO Region XI team up for safer roads in Davao region
IN SUPPORT of road safety efforts in the Davao Region, Coca‑Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines (CCEAP) partners with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) XI to pilot the Promoting Accessible and Sustainable Assistance for Drivers’ Advancement (P.A.S.A.D.A.) Project, making CCEAP the first private‑sector partner to implement the program in the region.
As the bottling partner and official distributor of Coca‑Cola products in the country, CCEAP operates an extensive footprint of 18 manufacturing plants and more than 3,400 trucks that serve over one million sari‑sari stores. With its fleet on the road every day to deliver its iconic beverages to millions of Filipinos, ensuring the safety of its associates and the communities it serves remains a core priority.
The P.A.S.A.D.A. Project is LTO XI’s flagship initiative designed to bring essential LTO services directly to government agencies, business hubs, commercial establishments, and communities. Through this collaboration, CCEAP associates and their families gain access to licensing, compliance requirements, and essential road safety education.
A key component to this project is the rollout of road safety signages in strategic locations across the region, including identified accident‑prone areas in the Davao Region. These signages will be jointly developed by CCEAP and LTO Region XI and installed in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the city government, involved local government units (LGUs), and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The partnership was formalized in Davao City during a ceremonial signing attended by LTO XI regional director Atty. Ernesto Raphael Robillo, OIC–assistant regional director Joel Mandaya, and the district heads of LTO XI. Representing CCEAP were vice president for corporate & regulatory affairs Atty. Juan Lorenzo Tañada, logistics manager Ralph Vincent Ang, safety associate manager Marlon Avanzado, and EOSH lead Paul Louie Labanen.
Also present were Engr. Maria Gloria Sorrera of the DPWH Davao City District Engineering Office, Lt Col Nolan Raquid, deputy city director for administration of the Davao City Police Office, and Davao City Councilor Jose Marie Bernardo Baluran.
By improving road visibility and promoting safer driving practices, the initiative supports public safety, enhances community awareness and driver compliance, and contributes to the shared goal of building safer roads for all.
“At Coca‑Cola, safety is embedded in everything we do—from our manufacturing to our logistics operations that bring refreshing beverages to millions every day,” said Tañada. “This joint effort strengthens the discipline, compliance, and responsible driving behaviors that keep our associates, our fleet, and the broader public safe. We look forward to expanding the impact of this collaboration as we continue to champion a strong safety culture across CCEAP and the communities we serve.”
The Land Transportation Office XI, mandated to promote road safety and driver compliance in the region, expressed its full support.
“Beyond issuing licenses, the work of the Land Transportation Office impacts the lives of every Filipino because all of us are road users, whether as pedestrians, commuters, or drivers,” said Robillo. “With CCEAP and LTO working hand in hand, we can create safer roads and a future where discipline defines every Davaoeño driver. Road safety is not just a policy, but a shared responsibility and a commitment to protect every life and every journey.”
CCEAP continues to reinforce safety across its fleet and sites nationwide, advancing road safety within and beyond its operations and contributing to more resilient communities.

GCash drives employee empowerment to advance fintech for Filipinos
A deeper look into the leading finance app’s workplace culture of empowering employees to turn bold ideas into game-changing solutions for the nation.
Millions of Filipinos today navigate daily life with the support of digital financial tools, and for GCash, the momentum behind many of these solutions begins within its own workforce.
Within its offices, there is a strong culture that encourages employees to take initiative, collaborate across disciplines, and develop services grounded in real user needs, reflecting its view that meaningful innovation is driven by empowered teams working toward shared impact across the Philippines. This relentless customer obsession ensures that every solution developed is grounded in users’ real needs.
This direction is shaped by its core values “Change the Game” and “Care Like Owners,” which influence how teams approach both product development and problem-solving. Supporting this mindset is what the company calls its Happiness Chain, a cycle in which engaged employees create better solutions, satisfied users reinforce trust, and sustained growth allows continued shareholder investment in talent and innovation. By connecting employee experience with customer outcomes, the framework demonstrates how workplace culture can directly shape the relevance and effectiveness of digital services.

Across its ecosystem, teams are translating this philosophy into tools designed to address everyday financial realities. The group behind GLoan Sakto, for instance, developed a nano-loan offering intended to help users manage small but urgent expenses that traditional financial institutions often overlook. The concept grew out of internal discussions about practical financial gaps experienced by many Filipinos.
For Arens, who joined while the product was still being built, the collaborative environment helped him quickly adapt and contribute to the project. “When I joined GCash, this was my first project, need kong mag-adapt sa ways of working dito sa GCash (I needed to adapt to the culture of working at GCash). But the team really helped me, and they are very collaborative.”
A similar user-centered perspective shaped the work of the International Remittance team, which designed its services around a firsthand understanding of overseas Filipinos sending support home. By focusing on challenges such as fees, waiting times, and accessibility, the group developed solutions including GCash Padala, Visa Direct, and GCash Virtual US Account with support from global payments network Visa.
“Every test that we did, every change, even up to production, it was meaningful ’cause from start to end, we were all there,” states Phing, Product Owner Employee ownership has also enabled projects that improve daily experiences beyond financial transactions. One team worked on integrating cashless fare payments for commuters using the MRT-3, helping reduce queues and streamline travel through mobile wallet access. The initiative required coordination across technical, commercial, and leadership groups, illustrating how cross-functional collaboration supports large-scale implementation. “We were trusted to do something as big as building the national standards. So that trust really made us very brave,” says Karla, Account Manager (Transportation).

Company leaders add that these outcomes are reinforced by internal systems designed to support employees throughout their careers. Its Human Resources function works alongside business units to align talent priorities with organizational goals while implementing programs centered on the 3Cs Mantra: Care, Career, and Culture—people initiatives focused on providing a holistically designed workplace experience for the GCash Barkada.
These include well-being and rewards frameworks, structured development pathways, and data-driven intelligence to strengthen engagement and performance, as well as inclusive workplace practices.
“We lead and strategize, and we’re able to drive real business outcomes,” Arvin, Leadership & Culture Manager, emphasized. For Franz, HR Governance & HR Systems Projects Manager, his role goes beyond administrative tasks to actively partnering with business teams to drive meaningful results. He noted, “We are not just here to process paperwork. We’re here to be partners with the business and help drive it forward.”
As digital adoption continues to expand nationwide, industry observers note that fintech providers increasingly compete on speed, trust, and relevance. GCash maintains that giving teams ownership from concept to deployment helps accelerate development while ensuring solutions remain grounded in real-world needs, cementing its position as a true platform for good. As Robert Gonzales, Chief People Officer of Mynt, parent company of GCash puts it, “It’s this culture of ownership that enables our Kabarkadas to translate bold concepts into game-changing tools—ensuring that every solution we deploy is not just an innovation, but a meaningful tool that is making Filipinos’ everyday lives better.
Education and skills training kicks off 2026 Hope Behind Bars Program
ILIGAN CITY — On Holy Tuesday, while the city observed one of the most solemn days of the Lenten season, the Iligan City Jail–Male Dormitory was alive with a different kind of reflection — one rooted in learning, renewal, and hope.
Inside its walls, 40 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) traded silence for the sound of pens scratching on paper and tools clicking into place. It was the start of the 2026 Hope Behind Bars Program of the Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), an initiative that has turned the jailhouse into a schoolhouse.
English enrichment: Finding voice behind bars
For 20 PDLs, the day began with words. Guided by professors from MSU-IIT’s College of Education, participants embarked on the English Enrichment Course, tackling grammar, sentence construction, and expressive writing.
But beyond technical lessons, the program offered something deeper: a chance to reclaim their voice. Each exercise became a step toward clarity, confidence, and connection — whether in navigating legal documents, writing personal reflections, or sharing stories that matter.
“Education behind bars is a powerful act of restoration,” said City Jail Warden JCINSP Carmelo A. Corsame. “It proves that rehabilitation through learning is not just possible, but transformative.”
Basic house wiring: Skills that spark opportunity

In another room, 20 more PDLs bent over wires and tools, learning the fundamentals of electrical measurement, safety, and practical wiring. The Basic House Wiring Course, led by MSU-IIT instructors, was a spark of possibility.
For many, the skills gained could translate into livelihood opportunities upon reintegration. For others, the discipline and teamwork fostered by the course reignited a sense of purpose long dimmed by confinement.
Hope Behind Bars: A movement of restoration
The English and wiring courses are only the beginning. The 2026 Hope Behind Bars Program will soon roll out a diverse slate of initiatives: sports and dance lessons, digital literacy through Tech Behind Bars, soap-making, financial literacy, painting and visual arts, and herbal wellness. Livelihood trainings are targeted for TESDA accreditation, ensuring that PDLs leave not just with hope, but with credentials.
Other MSU-IIT departments are also mobilizing — from eco-hub projects to medical missions and library organization — proving that rehabilitation is a community effort.
From jailhouse to schoolhouse
First inked in November 2023 and renewed in February 2025, the partnership between MSU-IIT and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has steadily transformed Iligan City Jail–Male Dormitory. What was once a place of confinement is now a place of learning, where Holy Week itself became a season not only of reflection, but of renewal.
On Holy Tuesday, the message was clear: behind bars, hope is alive — and it begins with education.

Holy Week travel demand surges as Filipinos drive 50% year-on-year growth in international trips abroad
MANILA – Holy Week is rapidly emerging as one of the Philippines’ biggest travel moments, with Filipinos increasingly using the extended holiday to take longer leisure trips both domestically and abroad. According to global one-stop travel service provider Trip.com, outbound travel demand among Filipino travelers surged by 50% year-on-year for Holy Week 2026 compared to the same period last year, reflecting a strong appetite for international travel, especially to regional destinations.
At the same time, domestic travel continues to anchor the holiday season, underscoring the continued importance of Philippine destinations during the Holy Week break.
Together, these trends position Holy Week as a major travel and economic moment for Filipino travelers – driving demand across airlines, hotels, and tourism experiences.
Top outbound destinations for Filipino travelers
Filipino travelers are continuing to favour destinations in Asia for their Holy Week holidays, drawn by short travel times, diverse cultural attractions, and vibrant shopping and dining scenes. Major cities across the region remain particularly popular for quick getaways, offering a mix of leisure, entertainment, and culinary experiences suited to the extended holiday break.

Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore rank among the most popular outbound destinations, followed by Bangkok and Taipei in the top five list (Table 1). This reflects Filipino travelers’ strong preference for nearby Asian cities, which offer convenient flight access, vibrant cultural experiences, and a variety of leisure and shopping experiences.
Domestic travel remains a strong backbone
Even as international travel gains momentum, domestic tourism continues to play a central role during Holy Week. Bookings rose by 25% year-on-year, highlighting the sustained demand for local destinations during the holiday period.
The domestic destinations that are most popular among Filipino travelers include Manila, Cebu, Palawan, Malay (Boracay), and Davao del Sur (Table 2).

Table 2
Many travelers combine leisure trips with visits to their hometowns, making Holy Week one of the most important travel periods for domestic tourism each year.
Filipinos planning earlier for the holiday
Trip.com’s latest booking data also suggests that Filipino travelers are becoming more deliberate when planning their Holy Week trips. On average, travelers are booking around 74 days before departure, indicating a preference for advanced trip planning as travelers look to secure flights, accommodations, and activities well ahead of the peak holiday period. The data also reveals that 3 April (Good Friday) is expected to be the busiest travel date, as many Filipinos begin their journeys at the start of the long holiday break. For some, this means returning to their home provinces for family gatherings and religious observances, while for others, it marks the start of extended leisure trips both within the Philippines and abroad.
Travelers opting for longer getaways
Filipinos are increasingly using the Holy Week break to take extended vacations.
The average trip length for Holy Week travel is approximately 9.57 days, largely in line with 2025’s 10.03 days, and reflecting a preference for multi-day getaways over short weekend trips.
Longer stays allow travelers to explore multiple attractions or combine city visits with leisure experiences.
A more independent traveler is emerging
Trip.com’s data also highlights evolving traveler demographics during the Holy Week travel period in the Philippines. Women account for the majority of Holy Week travelers, making up about 60% of bookings, compared to 40% for male travelers.
Meanwhile, travelers aged 35–49 represent the largest segment at 38%, followed by those aged 25–34 (21%), suggesting that working professionals are driving travel demand during the holiday period.
One of the most notable behavioural shifts is the rise of independent travel. Nearly 70% of bookings are made by solo travelers, reflecting a growing preference for flexibility, personalised itineraries, and self-directed experiences.
Indeed, Holy Week is emerging as one of the Philippines’ most significant travel periods, supported by strong demand across both domestic and international markets. With outbound travel surging and local destinations remaining resilient, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest Holy Week travel seasons yet.
Note: The trends highlighted in this media release are based on Trip.com booking data in the Philippines, comparing Holy Week 2026 (1 to 12 April 2026) with Holy Week 2025 (16 to 27 April 2025).
EASTER is perhaps the most important day in the Christian calendar, the day when the faithful commemorate Christ’s victory over death and His gift of eternal life. It inspires hope, benevolence, and the desire to share the good news. Why, then, do so many of us celebrate Jesus’ conquest over death by being complicit in more? Why do we thank Him for the mercy He showed us but refuse to extend mercy to others?
The pigs, chickens, and other animals that many Christians thoughtlessly devour on Easter endure lives of extreme confinement, deprivation, and suffering before being violently slaughtered. Surely this cruelty grieves Christ, who commanded us to love others as ourselves.
Many Bible verses depict animals in Heaven (Isaiah 11:6–9, Revelation 5:13, Revelation 19:11), reveal that animals have souls (Ecclesiastes 3:18–21, Luke 3:6, Romans 8:19–21, Psalm 36:6), and tell us that God’s covenant is with all of creation (Genesis 9:12–17, Psalm 50:10–11, Hosea 2:18). Genesis 1:29–30 explains that Eden, the world as God intended it, was vegan. Death and killing only entered the world when sin did, and Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross ended animal sacrifice.
A loving God would not want us to cause harm or kill when we have another choice. Anyone seeking to live as God designed and as Jesus commanded can easily choose compassionate vegan meals on Easter and every day of the year.
Sincerely,
Jana Sevilla
