WHILE it might be a little late, Davao City on Tuesday, Oct. 21, extended financial aid to the Cebu province, cities, and municipalities that declared a State of Calamity after the Magnitude 6.9 earthquake last Sept. 30, 2025.

The 21st City Council approved ten ordinances on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, providing financial aid totaling to P3.9 million.

The financial assistance covers the following:

  • Province of Cebu- P1 million
  • City of Bogo- P500, 000
  • Municipality of Medellin- P300,000
  • Municipality of Daanbantayan- P300,000
  • Municipality of Tabogon- P300,000
  • Municipality of Madridejos- P300, 000
  • Municipality of Sogod- P300,000
  • Municipality of Tabuelan- P300,000
  • Municipality of San Remigio- P300,000
  • Municipality of Borbon- P300,000

However, even before the financial aid, the city government already sent 13 truckloads of relief goods to Cebu a day after the quake.

Proponent Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, committee chair on finance, ways, means and appropriations, said the funds will be sourced from the 30% Quick Response Fund (QRF) portion of the 5% Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (DRRMF) for the calendar year 2025.

Dayanghirang emphasized the city has sufficient funds left to support in case of emergency.

“We have still available balance of P207,975,187, therefore as far as Davao City is concerned, we are still safe, we have enough money,”  Dayanghirang said.

Asked if the city government will also extend aid to Davao Oriental, he said it is still undergoing damage assessment. Still, the city will assure to send relief once they finish the assessment.

The entire area of Davao Oriental is under a state of calamity after the doublet earthquake that struck the province on Oct. 10.
