ILIGAN CITY — Seventy (70) Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Iligan City Jail – Female Dormitory received practical massage training during a two-day skills development activity conducted by the Cooperative Development and Livelihood Office (CDLO) on Sept. 21–22, 2026.
The training, headed by CDLO head Alice Coronado, was facilitated by Celia G. Hyun, who introduced the participants to the proper procedures and basic techniques in massage.

Among the topics discussed were the dos and don’ts before performing a massage, as well as basic massage strokes including stroking or effleurage, kneading, friction, hacking, beating, wringing, and shaking.
The participants also took part in demonstrations and hands-on practice, giving them the opportunity to apply the techniques they learned under the guidance of the trainer.
Adding value to the skills training, the CDLO also provided massage kits to all 70 participating PDL, allowing them to continue practicing and developing their newly acquired skills.

One of the participants expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “Mapasalamaton kaayo mi nga gihatagan mi og higayon nga makat-on og bag-ong skill. Daghan mi og nakat-unan sa massage training nga among padayon nga praktison ug pauswagon. Unta magamit namo kini nga among nakat-unan para makatabang sa among kaugalingon ug sa among pamilya puhon kung makagawas na mi.”
For SJO4 Dina P. Tumanda, Jail Warden, activities such as this give PDL an opportunity to learn skills that they can continue to develop while inside the facility and potentially use as a source of livelihood in the future.
“We are happy to see our PDL given opportunities like this. Learning a new skill gives them something productive to do and helps them prepare for life after release. We sincerely thank the CDLO for sharing their time, skills, and the massage kits with our PDL. We hope that what they learned and received from this training will continue to be useful to them in the future,” Tumanda said.
The activity is part of the continuing efforts of the Iligan City Jail – Female Dormitory to provide meaningful skills development and livelihood opportunities to PDLs, helping them build confidence and prepare for their eventual return to their families and community.
