THE DAVAO del Sur Police Provincial Office (DSPPO) is in mourning following the tragic death of Patrolwoman Kay Remando Dumasig, 28, who died in an accidental firing incident on July 11, 2025.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:50 PM inside the Female Quarter of the Matanao Municipal Police Station in Purok Tahimik, Barangay Poblacion, Matanao.
Patrolwoman Dumasig, a dedicated member of the Matanao Municipal Police Station, was reportedly preparing her issued 9mm Girsan pistol (Serial No. T6368-22CK03370) for a potential buy-bust operation.
According to the initial investigation, the firearm fell, and in an instinctive attempt to catch it, she accidentally grasped the trigger, causing the weapon to discharge. The single shot resulted in a fatal gunshot wound to her head.
Dumasig was immediately rushed to the MCDC Hospital in Digos City for emergency medical treatment, but was pronounced deceased despite the efforts of the attending medical team.
The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) have been called to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The service firearm involved has been secured and is currently under proper custody as part of the ongoing inquiry.
