THE POLICE Regional Office XI has launched a public safety campaign, issuing anti-criminality guidelines to help residents protect their homes, vehicles, and personal belongings from theft and related crimes.
“PRO XI remains steadfast in ensuring the safety and security of every community,” the regional office said in an official advisory, urging the public to immediately report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police unit.
Securing the home
To deter burglars, regional authorities advised homeowners to strictly secure all entry points, including doors, windows, and gates. PRO XI also emphasized the importance of maintaining proper outdoor lighting and visibility around the perimeter.
For residents who travel frequently, police recommended making the residence appear occupied at all times and keeping a detailed, recorded inventory of all high-value items inside the home. Furthermore, the public was warned to exercise extreme caution when dealing with or opening doors to strangers.
Vehicle protection
The advisory also called on motorists to practice strict habits when parking. PRO XI stressed that valuables should never be left in plain sight inside the cabin and that doors and windows must always be locked, even during quick errands.
Drivers are encouraged to utilize well-lit and secure parking areas whenever possible and to remove sensitive, critical documents from the glove compartment or dashboard before leaving the vehicle.
Vigilance in public hubs
In crowded and public places, police reminded citizens to keep their personal belongings close and within arm’s reach at all times.
The advisory noted that criminals often use elaborate distraction tactics to isolate a victim’s attention. Commuters and shoppers were told to stay highly alert to their immediate surroundings and never leave bags or electronic devices unattended.
Emergency protocol
Should an individual fall victim to a crime or witness a robbery in progress, PRO XI highlighted that personal safety must remain the absolute priority.
“Stay calm and avoid directly confronting the thief,” the police advisory stated.
Victims are directed to immediately report incidents to the nearest police precinct to provide detailed physical descriptions of the perpetrators.
Additionally, citizens were reminded to immediately notify their banks and telecommunications service providers if government IDs, credit cards, or mobile devices are stolen to prevent further financial or identity fraud.
