AT LEAST 60 individuals were profiled by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI during a massive reach-out activity conducted in Davao City on May 20-21 under the agency’s Pag-Abot Program.
The DSWD Pag-Abot team visited key areas in the city, including Ecoland, Magallanes, Ulas, and Matina, to identify and immediately address the needs of children, families, and other vulnerable individuals living on the streets.
In a statement on Monday, Rovie Love Joy Belaya, social welfare officer, emphasized that the program will continue conducting a series of outreach activities to protect and assist street dwellers in recovery.
The program also aimed to raise awareness and keep the street dwellers away from harm.
At present, DSWD XI is coordinating with the local government units of the profiled individuals to ensure their smooth reintegration into their respective communities and families.
To note, DSWD XI’s Pag-abot program successfully reintegrated the Largo and Pansahali families on May 18, 2026, after being reached out to along San Pedro Street, Davao City, in coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the Paginhawaan Drop-In Center for Children.
According to the assessment, both families were in dangerous situations, temporarily living on the streets with their children.
The DSWD XI said the parents had come to the city in search of better opportunities, but ended up living on the streets. The families were temporarily placed in a safe shelter and subjected to thorough case management until their safe return to General Santos City.
The Pag-Abot Program is DSWD’s continuing response to individuals and families living on the streets, and providing holistic interventions, including support for the reintegration of street-dwelling individuals and families into their home communities.
