DAVAO Light’s overall residential electricity rate dropped by P1.42 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), the power distribution utility announced on Wednesday.

This brings the new rate for February to P10.30/kWh, lower than P11.72/kWh in November.

Davao Light said the reduced rate applies to electricity bills received from February 11 to March 11, 2026.

“This adjustment is mainly driven by lower power supply prices from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), one of Davao Light’s sources of power supply,” it said in a press statement.

While the rate is lower compared to the previous month, it is still higher compared to December 2025- Jan 2026, with only ₱9.7135/kWh.

Davao Light urged customers to manage consumption as market prices are volatile, which results in monthly changes in power rates.

The power distribution utility encourages customers to continue practicing efficient use of energy to avoid high electricity bill shock.

Davao Light recommended checking the estimated daily or monthly energy usage for each appliance by determining the appliance wattage, the average number of hours the household uses, the number of days the household uses the appliance in a month, and checking the rates.

To calculate the Kilowatt-Hours (kWh), the formula is Wattage / 1000 x Hours Used x Days = Total kWh. To estimate the cost, the total kWh should be multiplied by the rate.

To note, Davao Light in January urged the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM) Corporation to retain the 2025 supply allocation for the electric distribution utility.

The 21st City Council on Tuesday, Jan. 20, passed a resolution supporting the call of Davao Light.

Davao Light sources around 50% of its power supply from the Agus-Pulangi hydropower complex, consisting of power plants owned by PSALM.

Should the reduction push through, Davao Light will be forced to look for another source or go to the spot market.

Davao Light sources its power supply from NPC PSALM (50% hydropower); around 20-30% is from coal, which is from Therma South, and the rest is mixed from the spot market.

The utility said the worst impact of the contract reduction will result in an estimated increase in the electricity rate of Davao Light by 50 centavos per kWh, which is an increase of P100.00 in the bill of residential customers with a 200-kWh consumption.
