A 39-YEAR-OLD man is facing a criminal charge after allegedly assaulting a police auxiliary and resisting arrest during a traffic intervention in Barangay Buhangin early Monday morning, Dec. 29.
The suspect, identified as alias Fedel, a resident of NHA Buhangin, was apprehended by Davao City Police Office (DCPO) personnel at approximately 12:30 a.m.
According to initial investigations, PSMS Abokhair Gapalan and police auxiliary Coredo were returning to their beat patrol area after responding to a 911 domestic call. While patrolling at Block 36, NHA, they spotted a Honda Beat motorcycle carrying three individuals—none of whom were wearing crash helmets.
Gapalan flagged down the vehicle after observing it traveling in an erratic, zigzag pattern. While the officers politely advised the group to take a tricycle for their safety, the suspect reportedly became belligerent, shouting “unsavory words” at the authorities.
The situation escalated when Fedel allegedly punched Coredo in the chest and challenged the officers to a fistfight. When Gapalan attempted to calm the suspect and requested his driver’s license and vehicle registration (OR/CR), the suspect resisted and pushed the officer’s hand away, prompting an immediate arrest.
The suspect will face a charge of direct assault and violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority). He is currently in police custody.
