FIFTY individuals were issued citation tickets inside an establishment along Anda Street for violating the city’s strict ordinances on alcohol consumption and public smoking during a joint early-morning operation.
At around 1 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, the Vices Regulation Unit (VRU) launched a series of routine inspections across various bars and entertainment hubs to check compliance with the local Comprehensive Liquor Code of Davao City and Anti-Smoking Ordinance.
By 2 a.m., VRU operatives, backed by personnel from the San Pedro Police Station, caught an undisclosed bar along Anda Street operating in direct violation of the city’s regulations. Authorities issued citation tickets to 49 individuals found inside the establishment for violating the Liquor Code.
Jay Francia, the head of the Vice Regulation Unit, told TIMES on Sunday afternoon that the establishment itself was also cited after enforcement officers caught several patrons openly smoking inside the premises, a clear breach of the city’s comprehensive anti-smoking laws.
In a separate sweep conducted during the same citywide operations, VRU personnel penalized an additional 23 individuals caught smoking in various designated public spaces.
The VRU reiterated that routine and surprise inspections will continue throughout the city’s commercial districts to maintain public order and strict compliance with local administrative codes.
