THE LAND Transportation Office (LTO) XI and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) XI raided two Davao City surplus dealers for reportedly selling illegal right-hand-drive vehicles on Thursday, Sept. 17.
The crackdown targeted establishments allegedly engaging in activities involving right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles in direct violation of Republic Act No. 8506, also known as the “Anti-Right-Hand Drive Vehicle Law.”
The LTO XI Regional Law Enforcement Section (RLES) Regional Field Enforcement Unit, headed by Engr. Emmanuel Valenzona, and NBI XI SEMRO operatives executed the raid to stop the illegal entry, sale, registration, and operation of prohibited RHD vehicles across the Davao Region.
RA 8506 strictly regulates steering wheel configurations, including the import, registration, and operation of any vehicle with a right-hand steering wheel on public or private roads. Violators face heavy penalties like imprisonment of six months up to six years and a mandatory P50,000 fine.
LTO XI and NBI XI officials warned other automotive and surplus traders in the region to comply with vehicle importation and registration laws, noting that they continue to enforce the law to protect consumers and uphold road safety standards.
