THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) partnered with the 27th Infantry Battalion to officially launch the Buhangin Youth Leadership Peace Camp 2026 on Monday, Aug. 24, at Eden Nature Park Mountain Resort in Toril.
Carrying the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” the multi-agency initiative aims to cultivate disciplined youth leaders, foster civic responsibility, and strengthen community-level peacebuilding among young residents across Buhangin District.
The peace camp was organized by the 27th Infantry Battalion under LTCOL Eliezer M. Bejarin, in collaboration with the DCPO, the Davao City Youth Development Office, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, PEACE 911, DXFE 1197 Radio, and regional security stakeholders.
Addressing the youth delegates, MAJ Efren James Halawig, representing the 27th Infantry Battalion, emphasized that true leadership begins with self-discipline and personal accountability.
“The Peace Camp is not only a training ground but also a call to action for the youth to actively contribute to peace, solidarity, and nation-building,” Halawig said.
DCPO director PCOL Peter B. Madria reaffirmed law enforcement’s full backing for youth-centered peace programs, noting that proactive engagement prevents youth vulnerability to illegal activities and recruitment into unlawful groups.
Madria highlighted that empowering young leaders with strong moral foundations and civic awareness remains a crucial pillar in sustaining Davao City’s long-term public safety and order.
Guest of Honor and CSWDO department head Julie P. Dayaday challenged the participants to carry the camp’s core values back into their daily lives and local neighborhoods.
Dayaday stressed that young people must serve as active catalysts for positive change, utilizing conflict-resolution skills and community solidarity to resolve local issues peacefully.
DXFE 1197 AM station manager Magnolia Fernandez Yrasuegui also expressed support for the event, commending the participating youth for choosing constructive community involvement.
The peace camp features structured modules on leadership development, team-building exercises, civic awareness sessions, and interactive workshops designed to equip Buhangin’s youth with practical skills for community advocacy.
