- 32 fiesta preppers rescued in Marilog District
AN EMERGENCY search and rescue operation disrupted fiesta preparations in Marilog District on Saturday, May 23, resulting in the successful extrication of 32 individuals trapped by rising waters triggered by the trough of a Low Pressure Area (LPA).
According to a 9:30 p.m. situational report from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on May 23, the 32 rescued residents were in the middle of constructing a sabungan (cockpit arena) in Sitio Pagan, Barangay Tamugan, for an upcoming fiesta celebration when local emergency teams intervened.
Three search and rescue teams from the 1st and 2nd City Mobile Force Companies (CMFC) and Marilog Police Station (PS12) spearheaded the operation, which concluded at 8:32 p.m.
No casualties were reported in the incident, and the rescued residents underwent brief counseling before being sent home.
Despite the scare, DCPO confirmed that river channels across the city remain at “Code Green” (safe levels).
A massive contingent of 204 Ready Reserve Security Force (RSSF) personnel and 24 active SRR personnel were deployed to the area.
An additional 160 rescue personnel and 26 patrol cars remain on standby across police stations PS1 to PS20.
While zero evacuations have been recorded across the city’s 182 designated centers, DCPO units remain on heightened alert. Joint monitoring continues alongside Central 911, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and local Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees as cloudy skies persist over the region.
