A MASSIVE fire tore through a residential area in Purok 4, Barangay 23-C on Friday night, leaving approximately 200 families homeless and causing an estimated P2 million in property damage.

According to Fire Senior Inspector Frances Mae Sendrijas, spokesperson for the Davao City Fire District, the blaze broke out at approximately 8:05 p.m. on May 8, 2026.

The flames quickly spread through the densely populated neighborhood, as most houses are made of light materials, affecting an estimated 8,171 square meters of residential space.

While no fatalities or missing persons were reported, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) XI officials confirmed that a 38-year-old male suffered second-degree burns during the incident.

Initial assessment by fire investigators indicated that approximately 150 houses were destroyed.

The total property damage is currently estimated at ₱2 million, although this figure may rise as social workers continue to validate the number of affected individuals, which initially involved around 300 persons.

The ground commander, FSupt Donald R. Concepcion, declared a “fire out” at 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, following hours of containment efforts by the Davao City Fire District.

As of press time, the cause of the fire remains under active investigation by BFP authorities.
