A TOTAL of 102 members of Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) surrendered to authorities during a ceremony at the 1001st Infantry Brigade Headquarters on Feb. 13, 2026.

Brigadier General Vince James D. Bantilan, commander of the 1001st Infantry Brigade, presented the former rebels to Davao Oriental Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang.

The mass surrender was the result of coordinated efforts between the 1001st Brigade, the 66th and 67th Infantry Battalions, the Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office, and the Davao Oriental Former Rebel Association.

These units worked alongside the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict and grassroots community partners to encourage the individuals to resurface.

During the ceremony, the returnees publicly renounced armed struggle, withdrew their support from the CPP-NPA, and turned over 39 assorted firearms and various war materiel.

Bantilan emphasized that the surrender of these individuals is a testament to the “whole-of-nation” approach to regional stability.

“Peace is always possible when hearts are willing to change, and communities are ready to welcome,” Bantilan said. “This achievement reflects the power of collaboration, trust, and genuine government concern for its people.”

Dayanghirang commended the military for facilitating the transition. He described the ceremony as a vital platform offering renewed hope and livelihood opportunities for those choosing a peaceful path.

Also in attendance were Lt. Col. Louie Dondi P. Jabagat (66IB), Lt. Col. Noe Venancio T. Baluyan Jr. (67IB), PCol Ritchie S. Bucol (DOPPO), and representatives from the DSWD and DILG.
