THE 21-YEAR-OLD female declined to file formal charges against her boyfriend, a Chinese national, whom she described as a “POGO boss,” following an alleged physical assault inside a local hotel in Davao City on Wednesday.

The San Pedro Police Station responded to the incident on Feb. 4, 2026. However, Captain Hazel Caballero Tuazon, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, confirmed that despite the visible bruises on the victim, they could not proceed with the case.

Investigators noted that while the Filipina victim bore signs of physical abuse, the bruises appeared to be approximately two days old.

Under Philippine law, without a formal complaint from the victim (affidavit of complaint), authorities cannot legally detain the suspect for physical injuries.

Despite the dropped assault case, the suspect remains under the radar of authorities for more serious allegations.

The victim claimed that her boyfriend traveled to Davao City specifically to procure fraudulent identification cards.

She further alleged that the suspect is a high-ranking official, or “boss,” of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO).

The DCPO is now working closely with the Bureau of Immigration to verify the suspect’s legal status and the validity of his travel documents.
