Police warn parents after underage students’ fight

THE SAN Pedro Police Station (PS2) warned parents on Saturday that they will be held liable for any property damage or injuries caused by their minor children following a student commotion that recently went viral on social media.

In a statement issued Nov. 7, police confirmed they have identified the students involved in close coordination with school administrators and have scheduled conferences with their respective parents and guardians.

Authorities stressed that while minors undergo diversion and intervention under Republic Act No. 9344, parents remain financially responsible for their children’s actions under the Civil Code and Family Code of the Philippines.

“We strongly encourage the youth to be mindful of their conduct,” the PS2 stated, warning students that involvement in public disturbances could lead to a police record and jeopardize their future.

Police also cautioned the public against sharing unedited videos, names, or photos of the minors online, emphasizing that publishing personal details of underage individuals violates the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and RA 9344.

Instead of filming or sharing incidents on social media, the public is urged to report active disturbances directly to PS2 San Pedro at 0998 598 7057 or through the National Emergency Hotline 911.
