Manila, Philippines — In support of the country’s energy conservation efforts, McDonald’s Philippines is going beyond Earth Hour, switching off non-essential lights for one hour across all stores nationwide for four more consecutive Saturdays.

From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on March 28, over 850 McDonald’s stores will turn off their pylon lights, canopy lights, and lighting in unused areas, joining millions of Filipinos in marking the World Wide Fund for Nature’s commemoration of Earth Hour.

Beyond its participation, the quick service restaurant (QSR) is also extending the lights-off activity to four more Saturdays—April 4, 11, 18, and 25—encouraging more Filipinos to take small, everyday steps that can make a meaningful difference.

“At McDonald’s, we are taking concrete steps to support responsible energy use across our operations,” said Margot Torres, Managing Director of McDonald’s Philippines. “By extending Earth Hour across more days, we move beyond a one-hour gesture and into sustained action.”

This initiative is part of McDonald’s broader commitment to sustainability under its Green & Good program, which brings to life more environment-friendly practices across its stores.

Select Green & Good stores are equipped with features such as solar rooftops, rainwater harvesting systems, and solar lampposts; helping reduce electricity and water use while supporting more sustainable operations. These stores also promote active mobility through designated Bike and Dine and repair stations.

Beyond energy efficiency, the company continues to reduce plastic waste and its reliance on single-use materials through more sustainable packaging and responsible disposal practices.

Through these efforts, McDonald’s Philippines reinforces its commitment to responsible energy use and sustainable operations.
