MAWAB, Davao de Oro — The Municipal Government of Mawab has intensified its campaign against malnutrition after successfully conducting a three-day Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) Training from July 14 to 16, 2026, at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) Building in Mawab.

Organized by the Municipal Health Office, the training brought together barangay nutrition scholars and Human Resources for Health personnel, who serve as frontline workers in implementing nutrition programs in the municipality’s barangays.

The initiative forms part of the local government’s continuing efforts to strengthen nutrition services and improve the management of acute malnutrition, particularly among children. The activity was made possible through the sustained support of the local government under the leadership of Mayor Myrill Apit, MPA, who has consistently prioritized health and nutrition programs for Mawabeños.

Mayor Apit emphasized that investing in the knowledge and skills of frontline health workers is key to ensuring healthier communities.

“Healthy children are the foundation of a stronger and more progressive Mawab. By equipping our health and nutrition workers with the right knowledge and skills, we are empowering them to provide better care to our children and families. Our administration remains committed to supporting programs that prevent malnutrition and promote the overall well-being of every Mawabeño,” Mayor Apit said.

During the three-day training, participants enhanced their knowledge and skills in the identification, treatment, and management of acute malnutrition through lectures, workshops, and interactive learning sessions.

The sessions were facilitated by nutrition experts Ivy S. Calamongay, ND II, LJ Shaine Villan, ND II, and Quicelyn Clarito, ND II from the Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO), together with Gia Dominique Caballes, ND I from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The event was also attended by Arvin Ablin, DMO IV-PHTL of PDOHO, Ronald Dela Cruz, DMO IV of PDOHO, Dave S. Mondero, Municipal Health Office Administrator, and Morina Sabior, LGU-Mawab Nutrition Coordinator, who expressed their support for strengthening the municipality’s nutrition programs.

Through the PIMAM training, LGU Mawab continues to build the capacity of its health and nutrition workers by providing them with updated knowledge and practical skills in managing acute malnutrition. The initiative aims to improve the quality of care for children and reduce malnutrition cases in the community as part of the municipality’s commitment to promoting the health and well-being of every Mawabeño family.
