Davao City – Holy Child College of Davao Red Eagles outplayed Southern Philippines Polytechnic College Incorporated (SPPCI), 75-73 to crown themselves the 18 Under Division 1 champions in the Gaisano Grand Cup 21st Season played at the Gaisano Grand Skygym.
Japhet Ayonayon and Jaruh Paparon led the Red Eagles with similar 14 points and prevented a possible SPPCI comeback in the final canto. Ikeen Perales led SPPCI with 24 points in a losing effort.
In Division II, Amanda Marga Special Academic Institution (AMSAI) bested Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High, 57-41 for this year’s title anchored by Jerald Cruz’s 18 baskets.
Crossing Bayabas National High also made their presence felt by winning the Women’s Division crown on top off rival Davao City National High, 55-50 led by the pair of Kim Baritua and Alleah Teringtering who finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Tournament co-commissioner Aldin Celi awarded the winners with their respective prizes after the games.
The Gaisano Grand Cup (GGCup) basketball tournament, dubbed as the city’s longest running grassroots development program gears up for its 16 Under and 14 Under age group classifications which tips off next weekend.
