Hallmark Mining Corporation (HMC) took another step in reinforcing their environmental responsibility by empowering their surrounding partner communities. HMC has successfully distributed 215,829 seedlings to farming communities across Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur through its comprehensive replacement planting and re-greening program.
This program reached 373 farmers across more than 17 barangays, covering 338.3 hectares of rehabilitated and productive land, and subsequently finished distribution last May 2025.
“Through this program, we can demonstrate that mining, when done responsibly, can showcase environmental stewardship that goes beyond compliance,” said Hallmark Environmental Manager Butch Sebua.
“Apart from future rehabilitation of the site, Hallmark is also committed to empowering the local and surrounding communities by providing sustainable livelihoods while actively restoring ecosystems that we are inhabiting in the present.”
The program strategically distributed seedlings designed for both environmental restoration and income generation.

Among the seedlings provided were 71,217 bamboo propagules for soil erosion control and carbon sequestration, 55,320 durian seedlings for high-value crop production, and 36,597 cacao seedlings for income diversification. Additionally, fruit trees were also among the seedlings planted, including citrus, mangosteen, rambutan, and lanzones.
Another notable achievement of the program was the delivery of 30,000 coffee seedlings to indigenous farmers in Sitio Matabang, accompanied by comprehensive training in regenerative farming practices. Forty indigenous farmers received seedlings and hill planting incentives.
Beyond seedling distribution, HMC conducted multiple regenerative farming seminars covering coconut-cacao-coffee intercropping, sustainable land management, and climate-resilient farming practices. This knowledge transfer ensures farmers can maintain and expand the environmental and economic benefits long-term.
HMC continues to expand its environmental initiatives with documented site visits, guided walks through active rehabilitation zones, and transparent reporting on seedling survival rates and land restoration progress. The company invites stakeholders to witness firsthand the transformation of rehabilitated areas, showcasing visible environmental recovery outcomes.
