Davao-Japan dance institutions collaborate

Davao City – In celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Japan-Philippine Diplomatic Relations, Japan Western Dance Federation chairperson Yuko Takahashi and Consul General of Japan in Davao Ono Hirotaka along with the Davao City Tourism Office (DCTO) discussed on a possible future collaboration between both dance institutions.

Davao City Tourism Office (DCTO) officer-in-charge Will Tormis said that the meeting was to introduce and share the beauty of modern ballet in the city and strengthen cultural understanding with Japan.

“We met along with Davao City’s local artistic community and the international modern ballet practitioners to create possible opportunities for training, workshops, performances, cultural exchanges and artistic collaborations. It is also to encourage greater exposure to modern ballet and international dance practices in Davao City,” Tormis said.

Davao-born Filipino modern ballet artist Riyanna Chadette Co and the Silliman University Dance Company which represented the academic and performing arts community of Dumaguete City also joined the meeting and presented their views regarding the collaboration.
