Davao City durian enters Muscat, Oman market

FRESH durian from Belviz Farm in Davao City entered the Middle East through a trial shipment for Muscat, Oman.

The shipment contained a total of 1.08 metric tons of fresh durian on July 27 at the Engseng Facility in Calinan, Davao City, to Jeel Almaaly International in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, Oman.

The trial shipment, facilitated by Engseng Food Products, consisted of 56 boxes of fresh Puyat and Duyaya durian varieties produced by Belviz Farm in Barangay Wangan, Calinan, Davao City.  

Ruby Bernales of Engseng Food Products highlighted the importance of consistently adopting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

Ang durian nga atong gipili is export quality siya since this is our first shipment.  Dapat free from pests and diseases so thorough clean gyud ang durian nga walay masabay nga mga bugs,” Bernales said in a video posted by Agri Info Davao. 

She stressed that GAP certification is necessary to uphold farm quality, food safety, and post-harvest standards.

The Department of Agriculture XI witnessed the ceremonial send-off on July 27 at the Engseng Facility in Calinan, Davao City.

“We encourage our farmers to continue producing quality fruits that comply with market requirements so that more market opportunities can be created for our local producers,” DA XI regional executive director Macario D. Gonzaga said.

DA XI said the trial shipment is expected to open for larger and more regular orders.
