Amid Pax Silica Pushback, PETA Billboard Campaign Says Meat Industry Is Worse for the Environment and Animals

by Contributor

METRO MANILA — As public concern grows over the environmental footprint of AI infrastructure and the proposed Pax Silica hub in New Clark City, Tarlac, PETA has launched the first phase of a billboard campaign highlighting the far greater environmental and animal welfare costs of the meat, egg, and dairy industries, and encouraging viewers to go vegan.

The billboards carry the message, “The biggest resource drain isn’t digital. It’s dinner. Please, go vegan.” Beginning in Metro Manila, the campaign will expand to New Clark City, where the proposed Pax Silica hub has drawn scrutiny over its resource consumption and environmental impacts.

“Anyone troubled by the Pax Silica hub’s potential footprint should know that AI’s water use is a drop in the bucket compared to resources drained by the meat, egg, and dairy industries, which guzzle enormous quantities of water, churn out massive amounts of methane, and consume vast areas of land, all while causing animals immense suffering,” said PETA president Jason Baker. “Going vegan is the single most powerful step Filipinos can take for the environment, and PETA is calling on everyone serious about protecting the planet to start with what’s on their plate. Anyone up in arms about server farms should keep that same energy for factory farms.”

According to the United Nations, a global shift to vegan eating is essential to combat the worst effects of the climate catastrophe, as animal agriculture is responsible for roughly one-fifth of all human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. Research shows that going vegan can reduce an individual’s food-related carbon footprint by up to 73%, making it one of the most effective steps anyone can take to lessen their environmental impact. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help anyone make the switch.

PETA’s billboard campaign launches with placement along EDSA Connecticut Greenhills. PETA thanks United Neon for generously donating the advertising space in Metro Manila and helping amplify the campaign’s call for environmentally conscious food choices. PETA’s next billboard rollout will bring its message about the environmental costs of animal agriculture to the proposed location of the Pax Silica hub, New Clark City, Tarlac.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a cow is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow PETA Asia on XFacebook, or LinkedIn.
