A WATCHER for the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 21, for allegedly taking photographs of official test papers and sending them to an unidentified review center in the city.
The suspect, identified by the NBI-South Eastern Mindanao Regional Office but TIMES is withholding his identity, is a senior high school teacher at a prominent university in Davao City.
According to Atty. Arcelito Albao of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) XI, alias Frank was caught in the act by operatives.
Albao said the suspect has done the same modus at least twice.
He said the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) sought the NBI’s assistance, leading to the arrest.
Albao confirmed that the suspect confessed to forwarding the photos of the examination materials to a review center in exchange for compensation.
The NBI is still investigating the amount of money involved and the identities of his accomplices.
The suspect will face a charge for violating the PRC Modernization Act of 2000 (Republic Act 8981), as amended by Republic Act 9416.
Under this law, the offenses are punishable by Imprisonment of six years and one day to twelve years, A fine ranging from ₱50,000 to ₱100,000, and a Perpetual disqualification from taking any government examination.
The NBI continues to coordinate with the PRC and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to ensure the proper filing of charges.
Further investigation is underway to determine if additional charges under the Revised Penal Code, such as fraud or falsification, are applicable. For now, the suspect is under the custody of the NBI XI for the filing of appropriate charges against him.
