IN CELEBRATION of the 52nd Nutrition Month this July, Davao City is joining local governments across the country in promoting public awareness of the importance of proper nutrition and healthy living.

Elizabeth B. Bazon, City Health Office Nutrition Division coordinator, said the annual celebration emphasizes the connection between good nutrition and environmental sustainability, encouraging Filipinos to care for both their health and the environment.

Bazon further explained that the observance of Nutrition Month is mandated under Section 7 of Presidential Decree No. 491, also known as the Nutrition Act of the Philippines, which officially declared July as Nutrition Month.

Since its enactment, the celebration has become an important avenue for educating the public on nutrition-related issues and promoting programs that support a healthier and more productive nation.

“The Gulayan sa Barangay at Paaralan Program is consistently strengthened,”  Elizabeth B. Bazon said, adding that this aims to guarantee that families will have access to fresh food in the future.

She said Davao City should sustain its gains, especially as the proportion of malnutrition cases had declined. The decrease is a result of community involvement, nutrition programs, and campaigns that support sustainable and healthful eating habits.
