THE DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) revealed that the Bucana Bridge, a vital artery of the Davao City Coastal Road, is on track to be completed by the last quarter of 2025.
DPWH reported the project is now 92.3% complete, and is expected to be 95% complete by July 2025.
“The Bucana Bridge construction is moving steadily with about 3-4% progress each month, and we expect it to be 95% complete by July 2025,” Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, in-charge of the DPWH flagship infrastructure project, said in a report.
The China Aid Localized Project Bucana Bridge features a four-lane, six-span extradosed bridge stretching 480.20 meters across the Davao River, with a total project length of 1,340 meters when including the approach roads.
With a contract cost of ₱3.126 billion, the project is funded through a China Aid Grant under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) program from the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
In the report, stay cables across all five piers, one of the project’s most complex structural components, were achieved on June 26. Structural connections between abutment 0 and pier 1, as well as pier 1 and pier 2, were already completed.
Meanwhile, the sub-base laying and compaction at the approach road, alongside the construction of drainage systems and concrete fencing, and slope protection works at the abutment are ongoing.
The connection between pier 2 and pier 3 is scheduled for July 2, and the connection between pier 5 and abutment 1 is underway.
“With final deck connections targeted for July and substantial work nearing completion, the Bucana Bridge Project will soon become a transformative infrastructure asset by the end of 2025,” the report added.
The bridge is seen to address the transport problems, making travel in and out of the city faster, and strengthening the overall road network in the Davao Region.
