THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) clarified on Saturday that recent police visits to various local businesses are part of a proactive security strategy rather than a response to a deteriorating peace and order situation.
Acting city director Col Mannan Caracas Muarip explained that the routine inspections and information drive are designed to preempt crime, specifically theft and burglary.
“These initiatives are not an indication of a worsening peace and order situation but rather a manifestation of our commitment to remain proactive and vigilant in safeguarding the community,” Muarip said.
During these visits, police advise business owners to “harden” their establishments against potential intruders, such as installing high-quality anti-theft locks on roll-up doors, reinforcing door hardware and entry points, and avoiding leaving large sums of cash unattended.
Muarip noted that while police visibility and beat patrols have been intensified across the city, physical security measures at the merchant level are a vital second line of defense.
The police chief also reminded the public against posting “unverified information” to avoid causing alarm
“We strongly encourage the community to coordinate directly with the DCPO or the nearest police station should there be concerns,” Muarip said, adding that security remains everyone’s “shared responsibility.”
