THE AQUACULTURE fishery in Davao City drives the growth of fisheries production, which posted an increase of 27.4%  from the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2025.

The city’s total fisheries production in the fourth quarter of 2025 reached 1,075.30 metric tons, compared to 843.92 MT in the third quarter of the same year, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported.

Starting in the first quarter of 2025, the city’s data was disaggregated from Davao del Sur.

In terms of production volume, aquaculture had the highest production with 813.27 MT in Q4, representing the vast majority of its total output.

This subsector experienced a 38.83% increase, with production rising from 585.82 MT in Q3 to 813.27 MT in Q4.

This performance elevated Davao City to become the second-largest contributor to the region’s aquaculture total, accounting for 16.1% of the regional share in the final quarter, ranking second among all provinces and cities in this sector.

Meanwhile, the city logged 179.08 MT for marine municipal fisheries, a 30.79% increase from 136.92 MT in the third quarter.

For commercial fisheries, the city yielded 82.64 MT for Q4. This subsector saw a 31.40% decrease, with output falling from 120.46 MT in Q3.

Production under the inland fisheries in the city, however, recorded the lowest with 0.31 MT, dropping from 0.73 MT in Q3.

The city has been eyeing an additional mariculture park in Lasang, where production of high-value species such as lapu-lapu (grouper) and talakitok (trevally) is prioritized.

The proposed mariculture in Lasang will be around 100 hectares, while the Punta Dumalag is 25 hectares.
