THE POLICE Regional Office (PRO) XI released an advisory under its Safer Cities initiative for residents to adopt proactive security measures against theft and robbery.
The advisory emphasized heightened individual vigilance and community cooperation to prevent property crimes in both public spaces and residential areas.
“PRO XI remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of every community across Region XI,” the office said in a statement, calling on residents to remain alert to their surroundings.
To help the public protect themselves and their property, PRO XI outlined six core protocols:
- Maintain Situational Awareness: Stay alert and avoid unnecessary distractions, such as excessive mobile phone use, while walking in public or driving.
- Stick to Safe Routes: Travel along busy, well-lit thoroughfares, and avoid shortcuts through dark, isolated, or unpatrolled areas.
- Secure Residential Premises: Ensure all doors, gates, and windows are properly locked upon leaving the house, even for short errands.
- Conceal Valuables: Avoid displaying large sums of cash, expensive jewelry, or high-end electronics when out in public.
- Exercise Caution with Strangers: Remain guarded when approached by unfamiliar individuals asking for directions or seeking assistance.
- Report Incidents Immediately: Contact emergency hotline 911 or notify the nearest police station immediately to report suspicious individuals, ongoing crimes, or theft incidents.
Police officials emphasized that while regional patrol units and mobile visibility operations have been intensified across major urban centers, public cooperation remains the most effective deterrent against opportunistic criminals.
